Facebook gaming consumed hundreds of my childhood hours just for it to be thrown in the trash. Zero reward or anything to show for it, just sucked the time from me and kept me inside taking care of digital fish and animals. College took away early adult life and time that I couldve spent learning abilities I actually wanted and knew could help the future. I just learned what I already knew and got my time and energy farmed for years. Weed and nicotine took my time and money, drained such important parts of my life. Destroyed so many opportunities that I couldve taken. Received nothing back besides internal damage all around. No regrets. I am who I am. Ive never loved life more than I do now and have never appreciated whats around me as much as I do now. Extremely great read. Need to read again.

@trillionbear We pay so much attention to the existing systems and spend so much time and effort learning about them, being a cog in a system. But we are shunned for questioning it, attempting to improve it but those at the top are rewarded for doing such things.

Look at Reddit. Who actually creates the value and produces the content? Users do. But who takes the money? The platform does, lol. Reddit controls the rails (the feed) and then optimizes all of it for ad performance and revenue. Meanwhile, the people spending real time writing posts, answering questions, and building communities get Karma and badges. Most of the time, no meaningful compensation. And after the IPO, it’s hard not to feel like this got more intense. More monetization pressure, more ad tooling, more “performance” focus while the actual content producers still aren’t sharing in the upside. I’m not sure how much longer Reddit will keep prevailing, but nothing lasts forever. Their dominance will end someday.

@trillionbear I never felt any extraction myself but I saw my parents what they went through to give me a better life and i have seen many parents working overtime and not getting paid enough and i think about it a lot and i promise I will work for the people, so thank you for writing this tb

Mobile gaming: Hundreds of hours and a few hundred dollars sunk over the years into dopamine farming, gaining nothing in return—not even lasting satisfaction. For infrastructure: Quarterly town halls, in person and via Zoom (or similar, recorded), to discuss projects or philanthropic endeavors the community wants to invest in and provide updates on those in progress.

I got hospitalized after i talked about what i found out As a schizo Years later I see some ppl that claims to be heros Saying that they exposed the truth and fight for justice But they using already exposed truth and manipulate new comers who try to seek the truth I’ve been fighting still And i dont mind keep doing it Honestly i got lost for a while Trying to figure out about the trick of the platforms But i realized that i been trying to adjust to their system I need ownership, not their asset. that must be fair

The thought that comes to mind is that I´ve been a teacher for 20 years, not just a 9-to-5 job, but thousands of unpaid overtime hours, late nights, and long weekends spent grading that required my attention. While those at the top of the educational systems were making 3X what I was making. Fair would be in shared profits, respect, and recognition.

Attention Extraction Example: I have spent an extreme amount of time on X. I am the voice of 4NBT and have helped build other crypto communities. Brought thousands of views and attention to this platform. Yet, I am censored for saying something as simple as F@990+, and I am actually paying a subscription for full access to features. Fair value return would be full access to features without a subscription, more governance access to the communities I am leading in, a cut of advertisement revenue based on fair metrics to the value I am bringing, and tangible/fungible artifacts that cement my work. 4NBT

In the barber community I follow a company called TPOB. It’s run by a barber who started his own clipper company. He went to China and developed a clipper that’s faster, quieter, and cheaper than the other big clipper companies. He does everything anonymously, wearing a mask to hide his identity, yet he’s selling a million clippers per year. I mainly watch because it’s just him in all the videos, single-handedly fighting the system and winning. The benefit I get is educational, but it’s also about giving credit where credit is due. He’s a fine businessman and deserves more respect than he’s been given. He asks his followers what colors they want and what style they want for the next machine, giving people real options. On top of that, he offers barbers a chance to have a signature clipper by promoting his brand. There are very few things that grab my attention long-term, but this is one of them. 🍻
