SUNDAY SERVICE $YzY WE HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEED Ye asks: What if Eve made apple juice? You gon’ do what Adam do? Or say, “Baby, let’s put this back on the tree, ‘Cause we have everything we need.” God walked with them. Yet still, the fruit looked good. Pleasure seemed one bite away. Eve reached. Adam followed. Humanity has lived in the fallout ever since. And Ye, along with humanity ever since has asked: What if the hand stopped? What if the voice said, “We already have everything we need?” The hedonistic principle will say pleasure is the highest good; seek what maximizes enjoyment and minimizes pain, and the fruit offered exactly that for a moment. Yet the calculation failed. Short-term sweetness produced long-term exile, shame, and death. True pleasure is not seized from the forbidden. It is received from the Giver. God planted every other tree and walked among them. The deepest joy was never in the apple; it was in His presence. Paul wrote: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Contentment is not the absence of desire. It is confidence that the Giver Himself is the greater pleasure. Jesus faced the same whisper in the wilderness: “Turn these stones into bread.” He answered, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Jesus was the antithesis to Adam and put the fruit back on the tree for us. In Him we find the higher hedonism: God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in Him. Every day the juice looks sweet, the shortcut efficient. The culture still cheers the material. Yet the invitation stands: Put it back. We have everything we need in Him. Not because life is easy, but because His presence is the pleasure that is constant. Look at the cross (the tree of life), where every wrong “yes” was paid for. There, the hedonistic principle finds its true end: the highest joy is received, not achieved. Lord, teach us the difference between fleeting appetite and lasting delight. Give us courage to leave the fruit where it hangs. Satisfy us with Your presence until the alternatives lose their shine. Remind us: we already have everything we need in You, and in You is fullness of joy. AMEN 4NBT
